What Happened To Twitter in Saudi Arabia - (from 2012)

It seems like the use and purpose of twitter has evolved into something new which i will attempt to explain in this post.

and hopefully with your feedback we will be able to reach some kind of consensus! which is something we should try to reach to when discussing & accepting different opinions in general without crossing some lines that may hurt or offend 'the other'.

for a while now, and with the rapid growth of twitter users, all kinds of people in society started interacting with the other person's opinion. this is fine if Saudi was a place where discussions are healthy and constructive.

it was the rise of two main ideologies. the conservatives and the liberals. however, some extremism came to the scene as well.

this was evident with the start of the #HamzaKhashgari case which we are all familiar with

now, the problem i have with this is that some people when as far as to discuss that he is not originally 'Saudi' and he's for khashgari somewhere in southern Asia. i mean this is pure racism. the western region in Saudi Arabia because of hajj, many people married from different countries, its the melting pot of Saudi Arabia.

to me, despite all that happened, was thinking about the guy's mother in particular, what her heart was feeling. fear for her child from the death threats and people who want to hang him.

now also for me, the fact he apologized and repented on what he said! now one of the facts that i choose to be Muslim and believe in the religion is because Islam is a religion where if you repent to god, you don't need any intermediaries like another prophet nor society's approval. listen to his mothers phone call (if you understand Arabic).

whats healthy or maybe not, is the rise of the other party, the #freehamza . this group who i think are more accepting to different views and believe their shouldn't be and imposing op opinions or beliefs or value systems on the other. if you convince me then you convince me, if you didn't leave me to my opinions and beliefs.

this clash of beliefs and value systems resulted in further polarization of society, hate within society and produces/brings to the surface extreme characters like #alhodaif who started to accuse people left & right because they hold a different belief & value system.

this for sure is not part of Islam, as Islam is a religion of forgiveness, private relationship with god, accepting others, and flourishing the society through embracing all kinds of people.

for me, i sure hope we can stop all of this and live and let live. let's bring real Islam back!

and don't forget AL Bukhari, considered to be the most credible and reliable source to the prophet hadeeth collection is from Bukhara and he's not Saudi !!
